Duplex Route for noise barriers alongside A13 and A27 motorways

November 2011 – The A13 and A27 have been widened to include hard shoulder running, and traffic noise levels have increased as a result. So noise barriers have been installed alongside these motorways to cut down the noise level reaching the surrounding area. Both barriers were treated using the Duplex Route: Verzinkerij Heerhugowaard hot-dip galvanised them before Poedercoating Heerhugowaard applied a twin-layer powder coating: green for the A13 and white for the A27.

Traffic queues were a regular problem between the Zestienhoven and Delft-Zuid junctions of the A13, particularly during the morning rush hour. So it was decided to introduce a managed motorway system. Traffic queues also meant that hard shoulder running was needed on the A27 between Gorinchem and Noordeloos. The option of an extra live traffic lane improves traffic flows but it also generates more noise. So noise barriers have been installed alongside both roads. Strukton Infratechnieken, which designed and produced the noise barriers, asked De Graaf Metaalwerken from Maarssen to produce 236 straight and angled support columns. The columns went through the Duplex Route: Verzinkerij Heerhugowaard hot-dip galvanised them before Poedercoating Heerhugowaard powder coated them: green for the A13 and white for the A27. So both noise barriers now have enduring protection against corrosion.
